Frida Kahlo: A Life Less Ordinary Dine & Learn pt 1 - May

This is part 1 of a 3 part Dine and Learn Lecture Series sponsored by Main Street Leasing, 1921 by Norman Van Aken and Modernism Museum Mount Dora. This whole series is designed around Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico's greatest artists and the influence she had on art and culture.

Part 1: This will be an introductory session into the life and work of Frida and will provide some valuable insight on her background and some of the unusual details of her work. This session will be held 2 times, once for lunch and once for dinner so you can fit this into your spring schedule. Although not necessary, we strongly suggest you start with session 1, so as our discussion grows and the information continues throughout her life's work in sessions 2 and 3, your understanding will be enhanced along with way.

Modernism Museum is all about education, art appreciation and opening up a dialogue surrounding a variety of creative topics. Join us as we host Herve Le Guilloux, former teacher and art expert, for an informative lecture focusing on the impact of Japanese artists on French Impressionism. This interactive presentation centers on the influences that brought about subsequent parallels on the arts of Japan and the Western world, while discussing the historical, commercial and scientific references. 

This is FREE to all 3MD members and non-members alike. We hope you will invite your friends to interact with Herve Le Guilloux during the question and answer portion of this event.

Part 2: Explores the idea of Surrealism. Detailed discussions on how Salvador Dali embraced the label of Surrealism and with both Kahlo and Dali having an exotic or eccentric lifestyle we will compare and contrast the works of both these influential artists.

Lady Gaga's life seems eccentric like Frida's and here we will discuss hot Frida paved the way for artists like Lady Gaga to live their lives "out loud".

Kids Clay Castle Workshop at Modernism Museum Mount Dora

We just love shaping young minds by developing their creative passion! We invite children, ages 5 - 12 to join us for a fun Saturday workshop at the museum. Everyone will start with a basic lump of clay and sculpt it into a fun and magically enchanted castle.

The cost of this session is $10 per child and all supplies are included. The session begins at 11:00 am and goes until noon, so it's a great time for parents to take some time for themselves and browse in our very own Modernism Museum Shoppe across the street.
