Area Children Get Messy with Gyotaku at Modernism Museum Mount Dora

This group of talented children had a blast at our kid's workshop on Gyotaku. They used rubber fish replicas to make their own fish prints! This workshop was attended by children ages 5 - 10.

We thoroughly enjoyed shaping these young minds in the world of art.

 

 

CeCe Teneal Brought Jazz & Blues to MMMD

 

This encore performance had our audience dancing in the aisle. Cece Teneal dazzled us on Wendell Castle's Caligari piano along withan abbreviated version of her fantastic band!

The energy was high and it was a night our patrons will not soon forget, especially since this was one of the last concerts to be performed live in the "esherick to NAKASHIMA" exhibit. 

Frida Kahlo Meets Lady Gaga Dine & Learn Session 3 - June Dinner

This was part 3 of a 3-part Dine and Learn Lecture Series sponsored by Main Street Leasing, 1921 by Norman Van Aken and Modernism Museum Mount Dora. This whole series was designed around Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico's greatest artists and the influence she had on art and culture.

Part 3: Looked at Frida's artwork and fashion through the eyes of today's pop culture and appreciated the legacy she left for artists who came after her. Lady Gaga's life seems eccentric like Frida's and we discussed how Frida paved the way for artists like Lady Gaga to live their lives "out loud".    

 

 

Frida Kahlo and Surrealism Dine & Learn pt 2

This was part 2 of a 3 part Dine and Learn Lecture Series sponsored by Main Street Leasing, 1921 by Norman Van Aken and Modernism Museum Mount Dora. This whole series is designed around Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico's greatest artists and the influence she had on art and culture.

Part 2: Explored the idea of Surrealism. Detailed discussions on how Salvador Dali embraced the label of Surrealism and with both Kahlo and Dali having an exotic or eccentric lifestyle we compared and contrasted the works of both these influential artists.

Part 1: This was an introductory session into the life and work of Frida and will provide some valuable insight on her background and some of the unusual details of her work. 

Japonism and its Impact on Western Art at Modernism Museum Mount Dora

Modernism Museum is all about education, art appreciation and opening up a dialogue surrounding a variety of creative topics. We hosted Herve Le Guilloux, former teacher, and art expert, for an informative lecture focusing on the impact of Japanese artists on French Impressionism. It was an interactive presentation which centered on the influences that brought about subsequent parallels on the arts of Japan and the Western world.

Clay Koi Kids Workshop at Modernism Museum Mount Dora

Children, ages 5 - 10 had a blast starting with a lump of clay and sculpting it into a magnificent fish on a stick. We love helping children develop their creative talents, and this workshop did just that!

Celebrating the Start Spring with Lotus Flower Origami

3MD hosted a spring celebration with local artist, Paula Davis, participants were guided through the process of creating beautiful paper lotus flowers, just in time to celebrate the start of spring.
