The Conoid Bench featured at Moderism Museum is designed out of American Black Walnut and Hickory. A favorite of collectors and designers, this slightly eccentric bench remains one of Nakashima's seminal furniture forms. First conceived in 1953 as a symmetrical bench steeped in Windsor vernacular, it became more dramatic as Nakashima took risks to make the wood louder than the form itself.
